American Airlines: getting your schedule in

The simplest way is a file from the official AA Crew Check In app. The hands-off way is APA Calendar Sync, which WingsAbove reads directly.

01 Getting the schedule out of AA Crew Check In or APA Calendar Sync

  1. Simplest: the official AA Crew Check In app has a Calendar Export that saves your schedule as an ICS file (its release notes: "Option to export CCI calendar as ICS file"). Save the file and use Upload a downloaded file below. A file is a snapshot, so export again when your schedule changes.
  2. Updates by itself: APA Calendar Sync. In the APA app open Calendar Sync, pick the iCloud tab, Add Calendar, and copy the Subscription Link (Server), the Username and the password it shows. Then use Connect a union calendar below and paste all three.
We have not yet seen AA Crew Check In's export menu ourselves. If you find it, tell us the exact taps.

02 Pairing it with the display

The same four steps whichever way the schedule came in. A couple of minutes, once.

  1. Open crew.wings-above.com on your phone or a computer, and pick American Airlines. This is what turns a bare "2214 MSP-ATL" into a flight we can follow.
  2. Give it the schedule. Paste the link, upload the file, or connect the union calendar.
  3. Check the flights. The page reads back your next few days. If they are not yours, it is the wrong calendar, not a mistake you made.
  4. Type the six-digit code into the display. Menu › Crew › Setup › Use a code from my phone. It works once and expires in 15 minutes. Then Use as the main display if you want the whole screen.
Who holds what. A link or a file is stored on the display itself, so nothing of yours can be lost by us. Remove it any time under Menu › Crew. We only ever read a schedule; no airline login is ever typed into WingsAbove.

03 Questions

The display says "Uploaded schedule ends ...".You paired a file, and it is four days from its last landing. Export a fresh one and upload it; the display takes the new code and carries on.
The preview shows the wrong month.FLICA exports only the month on screen. Show the month you want first, export again, and upload that file.
"That's a calendar-server address."You pasted the APA Calendar Sync server link into the link box. It needs the username and password too: use Connect a union calendar instead.
"No flights were recognized."Usually the airline box at the top is empty: most crew systems write legs with no airline code. Pick your airline and check again. If it is a personal calendar rather than your crew schedule, that explains it too.
Deadheads show as "riding as a passenger".On purpose. A family reading "flying to DTW" when you are asleep in 14C is a small avoidable lie.
"Home in" shows two dashes. The schedule ends part-way through a trip, so we don't know when you are home and won't guess. Export further ahead, or it fills in once the feed does.
